this year has been a very strange one. It involved a relative getting diagnosed with lung cancer and having to go through chemo as well as a few performances. After the relative’s diagnosis, It was time for the manx music festival. Unfortunately my fiance Robert, was not able to make it due to other commitments. Would I do well this year?
I was waiting to go onstage. The accompanist began playing rather fast, as he always does. Much faster than we had rehearsed.I was quite nervous, but knew I had to go on. I am always nervous during performances and when ever I perform, I wear a rosary around my neck. Unfortunately I did not win the first class I was in, but I was in for a shock the next class I performed in. It felt like I was in the shoes of maria Callas. I was singing Vissi D’arte from Tosca. It was time to go out. The story to the audience had been conveyed so Now was the time. I was not that optomistic due to who I was in competition with, but here goes. I thought. I started singing. Hearing Adrienne’s voice in my head, reminding me of technique I carried on. It got to the end. The high BFlat. I hit it quite well I thought. well, it was done. Who will win this class? Sitting waiting for the edudicator’s marks, then they said, the people who will share the trophy are: Then they said my name. I was totally surprised. I wanted so badly to win the cup, even if it was jointly, for my Nan. she had been wanting this for so long.
